Debenhams relaunch at Foyleside, Derry

During the month, I had the absolute pleasure of indulging in a very glamorous road trip to County Derry to attend the relaunching of Debenhams at Foyleside Shopping Centre. Myself and my plus one, Christine from Dolls House Journal spent the evening browsing the beauty department and getting some VIP details from various counters such as: Benefit, Urban Decay and Clinque.

On our way up to Derry myself, Christine and fellow FABBers, Katrina, Rosanne and Bex had a good old gossip with Vicki who was in charge of the event. A quick munch on some Pringles and Haribo and we arrived at the beautiful store. We first made our way to the restaurant that over looked the Foyle River and sipped sweetly on some Prosecco. After catching up with Laura from Debenhams, Scotland we made our way to the highly anticipated beauty floor. My eyes lit up as we can down the escalator, I was like a little girl on Christmas morning. It was hard not to make a run for every counter!

image

Our first counter was the lovely Benefit gals. I am a huge fan of the brand, I have worked with them over the year’s, I even get my eyebrows done by them here in Belfast. We were given an in dept brow tutorial on how to achieve the perfect brow shape and arch. Next was a lesson how how to create the much sought after winged liner look using the They’re Real liner in purple accompanied by the jet blue mascara. The funniest part of the evening had to be in their new treatment room where you can have ALL SORTS of waxing. Us girls got a little carried away and giddy when it came to talking treatments, very mature of us! (That comment is aimed at you, Ms. Doran).

The next port of call was Clinque where we had a run through of their skincare products. We also had a sneak preview of their new electronic face contour and sculpt. (sssssssssh!) Coming up for release very soon, this product is perfect for those of you who enjoy a little at home pampering in between facials. The girl on the counter also give me a little demonstration on the electronic face scrub (their version of the Clarisonic). It was pretty impressive how soft and smooth my skin felt afterwards. Used on just one hand (so I could feel the difference) she also showed me how it effected the application of creams.

Urban Decay was the final stop of the beauty counter tour and here we played around with the products and watched a quick 10 minute tutorial on how to create a flawless look. The crazed Smoky palette was also on display, it was the first time I got to see it in person. It is a gorgeous palette although I’m more of a warm toned girl when it comes to my eyehshadows. The brand is has such an edgy vibe and the products are so rich in pigment, I found it hard to concentrate as I was like a magpie looking at all of the fabulous make up.

It was pandamoanium once the tour ended as we were all very kindly gifted with a gift voucher to spend in store. I had a good idea of what I wanted to get with mine and I also paid a sneaky visit over to the MAC counter where I invested in one of their new Electric Cool eyeshadows. With my voucher I also bought the Urban Decay All Nighter Make Up Setting Spray and one of their new revolution lipsticks in the shade, Venom.

It was honestly such an amazing evening and I’m very thankful to Vicki, and Laura for inviting me along And spoiling us all rotten. I definitely need to take strip back to Derry to explore the city more.

Hozier Concert || OOTD

There is no better way to end the Summer than going to Belsonic to see Hozier. I have been a massive fan of his since the release of his first single, Take Me To Church. The Wicklow born singer wowed the crowd and I had an incredible night. Anytime I go to a concert, particularly an outdoor festival I opt for a look that is casual, comfortable and definitely gig appropriate.

I purchased this Topshop Khaki Bomber at the start of July and it has been one of the best buys. I’ve worn it to a few festivals and it keeps you so warm. The colour is amazing and it goes with so many looks. It is a short style with gold zip detailing along the arms. Last week I nipped into Zara to get some new tops and picked up this fab long side spilt slogan piece. I have a serious addiction to rose gold and metallic details. It was quite a ‘matchy, matchy’ outfit but that’s what I loved most about it.

I paired the look with my trusty tan Parfois cross body bag. It holds so much, I was even able to fit in my Nikon camera. I love how it added a little embellishment into my outfit without over powering it too much. For my make up, I kept it relatively simple with Benefit’s They’re Real Liner and Mascara. I opted for the liner in purple and mixed it with my jet blue mascara. I absolutely loved my look, very festival inspired!

Now that Summer is coming to an end, I cannot wait for Autumn. I’m much more of an A/W baby, I just love the dark nights. Even when it comes to clothing, I much prefer a statement coat and lots of layers.

What’s In My Make Up Bag?

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to be featured on Her.ie discussing all things beauty, particularly what I carry in my make up bag. I shared all of my must have beauty products that I use on a daily basis. I also featured some of my essential products that will carry me from day to night. I feel extremely grateful and honoured to have been featured so I just wanted to share it with all of you today.

As women, we all have the urge to have a good old rummage through other ladies make up bags. I think it says a lot about them and how they look after their appearance. Some can create a truly effortless look with minimal products, I however need a good army of essentials with me to master the ‘no make, make up look’.

I absolutely love shopping for make up and I could spend hours watching my favourite You Tuber’s creating this seasons hottest looks and TRYING to recreate my version of it. As I have quite sensitive skin, I like to invest a little more money into to my everyday look, however I still adore Superdrug for its purse friendly brands that I swear by.

Usually during a week day morning, I have around twenty minutes to create a semi decent face due to my sheer laziness to get out of bed. I keep it simple as I don’t like to wear too much. That all changes though come the weekend, I enjoy nothing more than spending some extra time blending out that perfect smokey eye or keeping it classic with a bold statement lip and a subtle contour using Soleil Tan De Chanel and highlight with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette

I kick start the process with a good skin prep and cleanse, and after applying my La Roche Posay eye cream and Effactlar Duo {+} products I top it off with some moisturiser and I’m good to go. I always prime my face with the Laura Mercier Foundation primer in Radiance, it’s my wonder product and it gives an absolutely beautiful glow to my skin leaving it feeling silky soft. This makes applying and blending my foundation and other products all the more smoother. I can never go without primer, I think it is such an important item to include into your daily make up routine.

Next step is my foundation. I have tried and tested an ridiculous amount of brands over the years for my oily skin type. For about two years now I have settle with drug store brand, Revlon. It was recommended to me by another beauty blogger and I haven’t looked back. Costing only £12.99, it is an absolute bargain and must have if you ask me. It is medium to full coverage and has a semi matte finish with a lovely dewy effect.

I have just recently switched my concealer to Urban Decay’s Naked Skin weightless complete coverage which I am madly in love with. I have problems with my eyes, from dark circles to Malia leaving me feeling pretty self conscious. I like a full coverage look that doesn’t leave my eyes looking dried up. If I apply powder, it ages my under eye area and some concealers crease around my Malia. I believe that concealer should be applied throughout your face to help balance out your look and help it look more dimensional.

When it comes to blush, I usually opt for a soft coral shade that is quite natural looking with a soft sheen. I switch between Benefit’s Rockateur and Max Factor. These two are a must have for me, they are bold enough to notice without overpowering my face. Topping it off with some Bourjois Healthy Balance powder to use in my t-zone and helps keep my foundation in place with the drastic cake effect.

Eyebrows have never been a strong point for me so I always need to have hem filled in, enter Anastasia Beverly Hills. I first purchases her Brow Whiz pencil when I was in New York and I have never looked back. It helps to mimic my hairs without looking too harsh and leaves them looking a lot fuller and tidy. As I have dark brown eyes I love creating a warm smoky eye using Charlotte Tilbury’s Vintage Vamp palette. The colours are absolutely stunning and the pigmentation is pretty impressive. This little quartz is so easy to use and blends like a dream. I’ll always top off my look with some Benefit Rollerlash mascara, it curls my eyelashes so beautifully and doesn’t clump or smudge around my eyes.

Finishing off with my lips, I prime them with MAC’s Prep + Prime. I have been using this product for years now and I swear by it. I love a 90’s neutral lip for my daytime look so I wear Boldly Bare lip pencil with either Hourglass nude lipstick or Charlotte Tilbury’s, Bond Girl. For an evening out, I would apply Make Up Forever’s Rouge Intense lipstick. All of these lip products are long lasting and never bleed, definitely worth investing in if you ask me.

So what did all of you think of my feature? I would love to hear your thoughts on all of it. See you all Friday.

Inside my make up bag

I thought it was about to time to share with all of you my everyday make up essentials. My look is simple but every so often, I’ll throw a copper eyeshadow or bold lip into the mix. I work my make up look off two ideas. One, whichever mood I’m in. Two, it all depends on just how much time I have. If only I had a relaxing and enjoyable amount of time to paint my face but unfortunately I prefer that extra hour snoozing.

image

Ok, so lets start with the bag that contains all of the goodness. I bought my pretty little patchwork beauty from Marks and Spencer. It is such a sturdy bag, this little rascal has travelled the world with me and has never failed me. At first, it looks pretty small but it can hold a good amount of beauty products to get my face looking reasonably ready. 😉

image

Now, onto the brushes. Everyone has their own secret weapons that help create and blend their make up perfectly. For a while now I have been using Real Techniques and I can’t complain. They work, wash and wear well. With the three W’s covered, I’m a happy girl. The Real Techniques range is incredibly purse friendly which of course is an added bonus.

image

Going through my list of products, I actually forgot to include my primer and neutral lipstick (tut tut). Well obviously before applying my foundation, I clean my face and do all of my daily skin routine usual. Then I move on to applying my Primer. I use the velvet formula from GOSH cosmetics.

image

When it comes to foundation, I have tried and tested a fair amount of brands. For the last year, I have been using Revlon Colour Stay and I’m pretty impressed with it. I chose the shade Natural Tan from their Oily/Combination range as it helps control my t-zone while giving me a warm glow.

image

I struggle with finding the perfect concealer, so at the minute I’m using Bourjois Happy Light in Medium. It does give me good coverage but somehow my dark circle manage to break through. I set my make up with Catrice to keep my shine at bay.

Now that it is Autumn, I am really loving wearing a copper eye with a 90’s nude lip. At the minute I’ve been wearing MAC’s Coppering shadow in a block colour style. I’ll finish it off with my natural lipstick from Smashbox called Primrose. If I’m going out for the night, I’ll switch my look by wearing a natural eye with a bold colour such as MAC’s Lady Danger. As always, with both of these looks I will only wear a hint of colour on my cheeks using Estee Lauder’s Silky Powder Blush.

image

Brows are everything to me simply because I don’t have any. Filling them in is an essential part of my daily make up routine. When I was in the States, I picked up the Anastastia Brow Whiz and I have never looked back. I’ll brush them into place using my old faithful, Gimme Brow from Benefit.

image

A sweet scent is important to me. Usually around this time of year I’ll switch to my autumn/winter perfume, D&G’s, The One. However I’m still enjoying Vera Wang’s Princess Power. It’s the perfect daytime smell and I absolutely adore it for the bottle alone.

Are there any beauty products that you can’t live without or would recommend trying? I would love your feedback, have a great day. ♥

My week on Instagram ♥

From going to the Zoo, trying to be a grown up and spending way too much time on Instagram, my week has been relatively quiet.

This week has involved a lot of me sitting on my behind and watching too much TV. Firstly, I’m very excited that New Girl and The Mindy Project has returned. Secondly, Belfast Fashion Week model and former Miss Derry, Ashleigh Coyle, is on Big Brother. Woohoooo! Good luck, Ashleigh. ♥
