Best of 2014: Holiday – Part One: NYC

So my amazing adventure has come to end. I got to spend precious time with my man friend in his new place in Boston and I spent some fabulous days in NYC. I’m currently sitting bored in London Heathrow dreaming of being back in the states, the luxurious side of travelling!  😉

I’m hoping to go back out to the States in October though so let the countdown commence! For now, I’m going to share some snaps from my trip to the Big Apple with all of you lovelies! ♥

Best of 2014: Beauty Event: The Beauty of Michael Kors

Just over a week ago, the House of Fraser at Victoria Square, welcomed the very fabulous Michael Kors beauty counter to their large variety of established cosmetic brands.

I am a huge Michael Kors fan, so you can imagine my excitement. It’s only the third MK beauty counter within the UK and HoF at Victoria Square was the lucky chosen one for its latest location.

I was invited down to browse the counter and sample some of his fabulous products. The lovely, Gemma gave me a guided tour and tested each piece on me. I can honestly say that I was overwhelmed at first by the rich gold packaging and glamorous lipsticks, nail polishes, glosses, perfumes and body butters. After testing out the third perfume, Gold Jasmine, I quickly settled in. The counter itself is a fabulous rich gold throughout with chic print chairs and complimentary lighting for the products. It’s a bold statement, but, it represents everything that the Michael Kors brand represents.

The lovely Gemma also gave me a fabulous goodie bag to take home. To say I was spoilt rotten is a slight understatement. Within the bag, I was given a bottle of perfume in Gold Amber, a beautiful blush called Flush, two bottles of nail polish, lipgloss and lipstick. The perfume is absolutely delicious smelling, it reminds me of being on my holidays. I tested out all products yesterday and I fell in love with the lipstick and gloss.

The vibrancy of the polishes and lip products are unbelievable. They are the perfect shades for this season, although I would happily wear them throughout the year. The moisture from the lipstick is fabulous and it sits beautifully throughout the day. Once the gloss is applied it makes the colour pop perfectly!

I haven’t got round to properly wearing the blusher, I only tested out a tiny tab at the counter. Although, from what I tried, I was impressed. To me, it feels and looks like a combination of blusher and a highlighter. It’s a nice soft shade with still a hint of a prominent colour.

Thank you so much to Mark, Vinni and Gemma for looking after me, I had such a great time. Happy Friday guys and girls. Have a fabulous weekend.

Best of 2014: Fashion Event: Una Rodden

On Wednesday evening, Una Rodden revealed her new collection ‘Usine’ with a fashion film screening and live model presentation in the quirky Aether & Echo. Myself and fellow FABBers Rosanna (Silver Brogues), Ruth (Willow Lane) & Carolyn (Forever Scarlet) had a great night catching up over fashion.

image

image

The Usine Collection, which means factory or industrial space in French, gives a nod to the industrial setting for the fashion film and photoshoot, which was shot in a vast warehouse in Donegal. Una is known for creating fantastic pieces so shooting these in a quirky and unique setting represents everything Una Rodden.

image

“I didn’t want to give the collection a label of a particular season as a lot of our clothes can be worn all year round – particularly with our weather we can need something more weighty in Summer or something lighter in Autumn or layered up for Winter,” said fashion designer Una Rodden.

image

image

She said: “These pieces are something women can pull out year after year and be able to style them up for a look that’s totally on trend. We presented our last collection with a fashion film and an art-style installation at the Meter House in the Gasworks and we wanted to step it up a notch with a really creative way of showing our work but also in a setting where people can see the garments and touch the fabrics up-close and personal”

The trans-seasonal collection incorporates luxurious natural fabrics including silk chiffon, wool, suede and leather as well as opulent embellished fabrics.

Softly structured gowns in Una’s signature drapery are given an edgy feel with industrial finishes including exposed zips and full-body length fringing to add drama and bold lines for totally contrasting look and feel.

Neutral tones of pale cream, buttermilk and putty tones form the basis of the collection with surface texture detail including lace and crotchet.

Colours include super-fresh pastels in soft pink, delicate green and pale blue, and stronger tones of emerald green, black and gold.

I fell madly in love with Una’s latest collection and I’m in desperate need of updating my SS14 wardrobe. I need to add more pieces to my own Una Rodden collection. ♥

Best of 2014: Inspirational Blogger: Song of Style

It has been a while since I last shared some of my favourite bloggers with all of you lovelies. I love the weekends as I completely get lost in catching up with my best loved fashion, beauty and lifestyle bloggers. Whether I’m browsing their online blogs or scrolling through their Instagram photos, I always feel inspired by their style, beauty looks and just how much effort they put into blogging.

image

Today, I want to talk about Aimee Song from Song of Style. I adore everything about this beautiful Californian blogger and Interior Designer. She has such a strong look but can wear a pair of sunnies at the beach and still look completely flawless.

image

image

It wasn’t until I was around 21 years old that I really started to take interest in fashion. I was a real tom boy growing up and I love how Aimee was the same. During an interview with The Telegraph newspaper she said: “I was a tomboy as a teenager; I played a lot of sports in high school.” Knowing that she embraced her look as she matured is inspirational to me as she doesn’t take things too seriously and simply grew into her own personal style.

image

image

image

Her style is a mixture of everything with her Californian roots always coming through in an incredibly chic manner. No matter what style she wears, Aimee always looks fabulous and effortless. For me, that’s really important as you should never look awkward or uncomfortable in anything that you are wearing.

image

image

image

image

image

Not only does she post about her style, Aimee is kean on always capturing great moments in her life as a successful and grateful blogger. She is lucky enough to travel the world, eat mouthwatering food from different countries and pick up great beauty tips along the way.

I love coming across bloggers who inspire you to stick at it, work hard and enjoy every second of your online adventures. I have a collection of fashionable beauties that I follow and today is all about Ms. Song. Her blog is a must yo follow and check out Aimee’s Instagram for truly beautiful photos. ♥

Best of 2014: Best Read: DVF Book

I can remember the first time I ever bought my first ‘real dress’. I was around seventeen years old and my adoration for Diane Von Furstenberg first started after seeing one of her campaign images in a magazine, hence me buying the now extremely dated dress. The Internet wasn’t what it was ten years ago, I think Bebo might have been around, but there was no platform for sharing and admiring the work of leading fashion designers. The term ‘Bloggers’ was not what it is today, everyone had a computer the size of a breeze block and it was all about the floppy disks. Therefore I created a scrapbook of my favourite looks consisting mainly of DVF herself. Each Friday I saved up my pay and treated myself to a glossy copy. I was in heaven. Even though I enjoyed all things fashion, it has taken me a number of years to really appreciate style for what it is, to understand my own personal look and embrace my body shape.

image

I would like to think that I’m at a stage in my life where I am a little more experienced within the industry, but I understand that I still have a lot to learn. I love spending hours admiring fellow bloggers online, reading up on designers and even people watching to feel inspired by real life. I have a collection of style books that have become my bibles and I am excited to add Diane Von Furstenberg’s ‘The Woman I Wanted To Be’ to it.

image

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this book, all I knew is that I had to have it. Was it going to be a book simply giving me a little insight into DVF’s life with some standard fashion and beauty tips included? Absolutely not.

image

Like Diane and I’m sure many of you, I have placed my magnificent mummy on a very beautiful pedestal. The first chapter of her book, ‘Roots’ completely floored me. I had no idea what I was about to read. It was honest, captivating and heartbreaking. At the tender age of twenty Diane’s mother, Lily Nahmias, was sent to the notorious Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz. I myself visited the death camp in January and it is an image that will live with me forever. In this chapter, Diane shares her mother’s journey, the miracle of surviving it and the horrible aftermath. “God has saved my life so that I can give you life”. Her mother was a strong woman who constantly encouraged Diane to live life to the fullest, try to see good in any bad situation and to be confident in her own skin.

image

The entire books consists of brutally honest thoughts that most people would be afraid to say out loud let alone put onto paper. Diane shares her life in detail as a mother, daughter, grandmother, friend, lover, wife, fashion designer and of course, Princess. A woman who holds such titles is a credit in my eyes and most definitely, an Icon. I don’t want to give away too much, all I can say is buy it. No matter what stage you are at in life, I’m sure you’ll all appreciate DVF’s words and have more of an understanding when it comes to her journey.

I no longer look at Diane Von Furstenberg as just a designer and stylish woman, but an inspiration.
