Destination Skin

Over the past year my skin has became incredibly sensitive. With this, I jumped at the chance to visit Destination Skin based in the House of Fraser, Belfast. I wanted to ask the beauty experts some questions regarding specific ingredients that I should be using, reasons behind my skin sensitivity, certain areas of my skin and what brands they would recommend.

image

For a while now, I have suffered from Malia around my cheekbones and more recently I’ve developed Keratosis Pilaris lumps under my eyes. When I first went in the lovely, Suzanne explained to me the process she would be taking, what treatments I would be receiving and what products/ingredients she would recommend.

I was very lucky to receive two luxurious skin treatments, a Vitamin C peel and a little Microdermabrasion clean up. After a quick cleanse of the skin, Suzanne started the Vitamin C peel that was honestly such a strong and deep clean. It worked through a few layers of my skin and I have to say, the burning sensation (which is completely normal) was a testament. After the peel, it was time for the Microdermabrasion treatment that is basically a non-invasive procedure that uses exfoliating material like crystals or diamond flakes and a machine based suction to gently lift up the skin during exfoliation. This was like a vacuum on my skin and sucked up every inch of dead skin, it was a little uncomfortable at first but it soon settled. I think it just takes a little getting use to.

image

Once both procedures were complete, Suzanne talked my through any areas of my skin that I should concentrate on and therefore which ingredients/products I should use. It was advised that I base my skincare routine around Hydrochloric Acid as my skin was a little dehydrated. Any gel/foam based products were recommended along with Salicylic Acid for my sensitive skin. It was explained to me that because I had been using thick heavy cream that were very rich, my skin couldn’t deal with it so it was reacting and causing breakouts and Malia. Since the treatments, I have switched up my skincare and based my products around the key ingredients and I genuinely have noticed an improvement which I’m delighted about.

A few week’s ago, I was invited back down this time to view the new Young Blood Cosmetics and their latest mineral collection at Destination Skin. With a variety of foundations, mineral powders, concealers and primers, each product is made with delicate ingredients that are skin friendly and suited to each skin type. The mineral setting powder is a personal favourite of mine as it is formulated from rich starch, corn starch and minerals and there is no talc in it (unlike other setting powders).

I was matched up for the foundation and when wearing it I couldn’t help but notice how natural it was. During my consultation, I did have a lovely little break out that had been playing havoc with my skin prior, so I wanted to see how the foundation worked against sensitive skin. It was definitely like wearing a second skin with a soft matte finish. It was a light to medium coverage finish that in my opinion was buildable to suit your personal preference. I still needed concealer to target my under eye area and any imperfections. One thing I will say is that I feel like this foundation is best suited for normal to dry skin types as it moved around on my oily skin quite a bit even after I set it with powder. I’ll continue to test it out to see if it settles as the feel of the foundation is lovely, I genuinely don’t feel like I’m wearing any make up which I love. It is still early days so I’ll be sure to keep all of you updated on my thoughts of it over on my Instagram in a few week’s.

Thank you to Jennie and Suzanne for inviting me down and taking such good care of me.

Nails Inc || The Knightsbridge

There is no better way to kick start your Summer holidays than being pampered with a fresh manicure. On Friday I spent my morning at Nails Inc in the House of Fraser, Belfast checking out their new gel polishes that are due to launch later this season. Each shade is named after an iconic location around London and my choice was,‘The Knightsbridge’. The classic nude shade is the perfect look for Summer, it’s fresh, clean and simplistic which is what the brighter months should be all about. I’ve had a gelish manicure before so I was excited to get some much needed TLC for my nails.

With so many adorable shades to work with it was hard to decide what to wear but I was definitely all about the nude. I have so many events, meetings and festivals coming up over the next few week’s and it’s always lady etiquette to look freshly polished (that’s my excuse, anyway!).

Before the lovely Laura applied the nude shade, she prepped my nails by working on my cuticles (which were in dire need of attention) and filing my nails into a lovely natural shape. My nails have been quite weak and poorly looked after over the past few months if I’m honest so she started to process of a new treatment. NailKale is a new nail care range formulated with Kale to help create stronger and healthier nails.

image

The range includes six different treatments; a Superfood base coat, a highlighter and four colours. Each one has some Kale extract which is perfect for injecting some Vitamin A, C and K to stimulate the Keratin production within your nail and gives them plenty of hydration and nourishment. Personally, my nails grow pretty well, it’s just the condition of them that I need to focus on.

image

The manicure itself was the perfect pamper session. I have to admit that I genuinely prefer a gel polish as it is kinder to your nails and doesn’t leave them badly damaged when they’ve been removed. Myself and Laura had a lovely girly catch up throughout my treatment which made it all the more enjoyable. I opted for some Swarovski crystals to each nail to add a touch of sparkle to them for Summer. I love how it gives them a delicate and pretty effect against the gorgeous Knightsbridge nude.

After consulting with the girls (the very helpful Laura and Seanine), I invested in some nails treatments as I really need to start to looking after them. I got the 45 second base coat to lock in my new colour and nourish my actual nail, Cuticle oil pen to help fight the dehydration and dryness of my cuticles and SOS nail pen for some on the go emergency treatments.

Thanks again to Laura and Seanine for making me feel very welcome and looking after my nails. I’m looking forward to pampering them with some much needed TLC each month.

Nails Inc x VVB

It will be a while before I can get my hands on a fabulous piece from Victoria Beckham’s collection so for now I’ll enjoy her nail polish collaboration with Nails Inc. I had been meaning to treat myself to this gorgeous set since it first launched but out of sheer laziness I never got round to it. I decided to indulge in a mini shopping spree last Friday (as you do) when I set eyes on this beauty in the House of Fraser.

The set consists of two shades, Judo Red and Bamboo White, perfect shades for summer in my opinion. At the moment I’m absolutely loving any crisp white or frosted pink tones so I know I’ll get great use out of the Bamboo White. I did test the colours out before purchasing them and they’re quite universal which is a bonus.

I do like a good two coats of polish for a solid look, sometimes even three if I’m feeling flirty. I applied two with the Bamboo White and I was pleasantly surprised that it gave me a full coverage finish. Sometimes when it comes to whites, creams and frosted shades I lose patience as no matter how many coats I apply, they’re always transparent looking. With regards to the Judo Red (it is more orange than red), due to time I was only able to apply one coat as I was in a rush but the pigmentation is so good with the one coat. Absolutely loving the results as you know yourself even on nights out you often forget to apply your polish and a last minute coat is generally what’s left. (And I’m not singing the praises of the polishes just because they’re by VB).

Have any of you tried the VB collaboration with Nails Inc yet? I’d love to know which shade is your favourite!

Best of 2014: Beauty Event: The Beauty of Michael Kors

Just over a week ago, the House of Fraser at Victoria Square, welcomed the very fabulous Michael Kors beauty counter to their large variety of established cosmetic brands.

I am a huge Michael Kors fan, so you can imagine my excitement. It’s only the third MK beauty counter within the UK and HoF at Victoria Square was the lucky chosen one for its latest location.

I was invited down to browse the counter and sample some of his fabulous products. The lovely, Gemma gave me a guided tour and tested each piece on me. I can honestly say that I was overwhelmed at first by the rich gold packaging and glamorous lipsticks, nail polishes, glosses, perfumes and body butters. After testing out the third perfume, Gold Jasmine, I quickly settled in. The counter itself is a fabulous rich gold throughout with chic print chairs and complimentary lighting for the products. It’s a bold statement, but, it represents everything that the Michael Kors brand represents.

The lovely Gemma also gave me a fabulous goodie bag to take home. To say I was spoilt rotten is a slight understatement. Within the bag, I was given a bottle of perfume in Gold Amber, a beautiful blush called Flush, two bottles of nail polish, lipgloss and lipstick. The perfume is absolutely delicious smelling, it reminds me of being on my holidays. I tested out all products yesterday and I fell in love with the lipstick and gloss.

The vibrancy of the polishes and lip products are unbelievable. They are the perfect shades for this season, although I would happily wear them throughout the year. The moisture from the lipstick is fabulous and it sits beautifully throughout the day. Once the gloss is applied it makes the colour pop perfectly!

I haven’t got round to properly wearing the blusher, I only tested out a tiny tab at the counter. Although, from what I tried, I was impressed. To me, it feels and looks like a combination of blusher and a highlighter. It’s a nice soft shade with still a hint of a prominent colour.

Thank you so much to Mark, Vinni and Gemma for looking after me, I had such a great time. Happy Friday guys and girls. Have a fabulous weekend.

Sound of the Sales

It is crazy to think that Christmas is over. Sometimes I sit back and think that all of that hype was for one day! However, I suppose that is what makes it all so exhilarating. When you see your loved one tear open their gift and the look of excitement on their face makes it all the worth while. After you have digested your food baby and sweated the alcohol out of your system, for us ladies the task of shopping the sales takes on a whole new level.

I prefer St Stephen’s Day (Boxing Day) as it is perfectly acceptable to lounge around in your new fluffy PJ’s and indulge in some Quality Street sweeties and a touch of online shopping. I have never really been the type to pound the pavements to snap up a bargain, I would rather relax and shop online from the comfort of my own home. However saying that, I know everyone is different and I understand that there are ladies out there who enjoy making the trip into town to treat themselves and spend their Christmas gift vouchers for Boots and Debenhams. Today, I have highlighted some of my favourites bargains from the sales, some I have already purchased.

1. Accessorize – Surpreme Stacking Ring Set: WAS £17, NOW £6.

2. Lulu Guiness Black & White Stripe Clutch: WAS £325, NOW £195.

Ahhhh, my darling Lulu. I have been a huge fan of Lulu Guiness for a few years now and she always has a great sale. I’m a lover of all things black and white, this clutch is the perfect accessory for bringing in the New Year.

3. House of Fraser – Mary Portas Grey Silk Sweater: WAS £69, NOW £20.50.

I adore everything about this beautiful Mary Portas jumper. With this style it can act as a cute daytime piece worn with skinny jeans or you can dress it up with a pencil skirt for a fabulous dinner and cocktails attire.

4. Faith at Debenhams – Metallic Brogues: WAS £45, NOW £13.50.

Alarms bell ring whenever I see the good old 70% off sign. My heartbeat races as I check to see if my size is available, call me dramatic but it is the truth. Faith shoes still have their concession in Debenhams and often put on a good sale. These metallic brogues are perfect for those of you who want to start making more of a statement in 2015.

5. Space NK – Laura Mercier, Into The Wild Collection: WAS £78, NOW £39.

The mother of all things beauty, Laura Mercier is a strong favourite with beauty bloggers and this fabulous three palette collection is a must have for those of you who are into their make up. The set consists of eye shadows, blushers and bronzing shades. An unbelievable bargain and worth the hype.

6. Space NK – Laura Mercier, Travel Brush Set: WAS £78, NOW £39.

Continuing with both Space NK and Laura Mercier, I could not resist sharing this pretty travel brush set. It is the perfect purchase for those of you who are building up their brush collection. It can be costly buying brushes individually, so I would recommend a set for those of you who are just starting off.

7. Boots – Michael Kors Sexy Amber 50ml Gift Set: WAS £54.50, NOW £36.33.

I am a huge fan of all things MK, I have his handbags, clutches, purses, jewellery, make up and this perfume. The fragrance consists of Amber, Sandalwood and Jasmine. It smells Devine and I would highly recommend it to those of you who like a warm scent.

8. Yankee Candle – Apple Chai Jar: WAS £18.99, NOW £13.30.

During the sales, I’m not all about the style and beauty departments. I will venture into the candle concession and smell up a storm. A girl who loves a good candle will always appreciate the Yankee Candle sale. This year I will suggested a jar that breaks away from their traditional scent. I always buy a new scent after Christmas as I live burning it in the New Year. Call me weird, but it’s one of my things and I love it. Something light and sweet such as this Apple Chai is always a great scent to have around your home.

9. River Island – 5 Inch & Up Snakeskin Boots: WAS £120, NOW £60.

My final selection from the sales will not be for everyone. Many people find it hard to like the snakeskin style, myself included, but when I set eyes on these ankle boots from River Island, it was love. Finnish fashion blogger, Sandra Hagelstam, collaborated with River Island to design a collection of shoes and boots that are utterly fabulous. If you are not afraid of a high heel or statement shoe, them I would suggest going online or to your nearest store and purchasing yourself a pair immediately.

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Enjoy shopping up an absolute storm in the sales, just try not to elbow anyone!
