Best of NARS

Over the past few year’s, NARS has fast become one of my favourite brands. The shades, pigmentation and packaging is enough to give me butterflies and I have managed to build up a pretty nice collection of products. I purchased my very first NARS product a few years ago when I was in New York City. It was my first time popping my Sephora cherry and I treated myself to a gorgeous lipstick. Since then, particularly with being a blogger, I have spent my well earned pennies snapping up the best that NARS has to offer.

I have a nice little niche of products to run through with all of you today so lets get down to business. From pretty palettes to sheer gold heaven, they have become essential products within my daily make up routine. By the way, this is a lengthy post so go grab a cup of tea to sip over!

Palette:

I’m going to kick start things with my gorgeous eyeshadow palette that I got when I was in Boston. It’s their ‘And God Created The Woman’ collection that I always find myself reaching for time and time again. The palette consists of six shades that are perfect for creating a simple everyday look or bold dramatic smoky eye for nighttime. What I love most about this product is how convenient it is for travelling with. It is such a small and compact little palette with the essential shades for creating multiple looks. If I want to add a strong pop of colour and incorporate a metallic effect, I simply spray some of my MAC Fix + onto a flat brush (I use the MAC 242 style) and load it onto my lid. It’s an amazing tip for really transforming your make up.

Pencil:

A few week’s ago I also picked up my first ever cream shadow pencil. It’s from their latest collection and they are incredibly dreamy and creamy. I opted for the shade, Iraklion and it is a magnificent mauve colour (I’m not the best at describing things and due to the lighting, it makes it look more of a champagne shade that a mauve purple), that makes a great everyday shadow, highlighter or you can add it as a transition shade as part of a smoky eye. Again, just like the palette it is excellent for carrying in your bag when you’re on the go. I actually tend to use this type of pencil and colour as a base coat for applying a more vibrant shade like a rusted gold foil eyeshadow. You can use it as you like, that’s what makes it all the more appealing.

Foundation:

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I didn’t jump on the Sheer Glow band wagon until two week’s ago. Over the past few years of blogging, I have seen numerous beauty bloggers and You Tubers swear by it. It definitely took me a while to actually go out and get matched up, I don’t know about any of you but I absolutely hate shopping for foundation. I find the entire process so stressful as I can’t find my perfect match or the correct coverage. I like a soft glow shade and medium to full coverage when it comes to my foundations however I’m hoping that once certain areas of my skin improve, to go for a more natural and sheer product. Yes, the foundation is called Sheer Glow but it actually is a medium coverage that looks beautifully natural and so lightweight it is an absolute dream to wear. My previous foundations have always felt so caked on and congested my skin so I really enjoy wearing the Sheer Glow. I will say that if you have any pigmentation or blemishes on your skin, you will need to prime and conceal those areas as the foundation is not enough to cover them.

Powder: Loose/Pressed:

I was very lucky to spend an afternoon at Space NK as part of their NARS masterclass with international MUA, Benoit Dumont. I learnt so many tips and tricks regarding make up, the actual application (not as simple as it sounds) and even how your skincare can effect the entire make up process. It was after the class that Benoit recommended some products for my skin type and gave me some personal tips on how to contour and highlight my face (I was dying to know the correct way) as I have often questioned the best way to work with my face shape, the good old oval style. One product that I got was the ever popular Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder – a cult classic within the beauty industry. I have the loose version of this but I much prefer the pressed powder because I personally think it works a lot better with my skin type. It doesn’t cake my make up or gather in certain areas which is a major bonus for me. I’ve seen and heard of various bloggers and people swear by it as an undereye setting powder for their concealer but unfortunately I have to avoid that as it ages my eyes so bad. For those of you who find their concealer creasing or make up moving, I would definitely suggest this little beauty.

Blush/Bronzer:

I can be real funny when it comes to wearing blusher, I have my bible blushes that I swear by that are pretty much from the same colour palette but I don’t often branch out. During the year I was very kindly gifted the Virtual Domination Cheek Palette (It was a limited edition product so I’m not sure if it is still available) that includes five shades Laguna Bronzing Powder, Miss Liberty Highlighting Blush, Deep Throat Blush, Sex Fantasy Blush- limited edition and Final Cut Blush – limited edition. For those of you beauty bloggers who love a good NARS product, I’m sure you’re all aware that the Laguna Bronzer is an iconic product that is an essential part of your make up collection.

Highlight:

If there is one product that I could never live without it is the breathtaking highlighter. It is in my opinion thee best invention that has continued to be a cult classic within my make up collection. I have a massive collection (even if I do say so myself) that I swear by and this NARS beauty that is an absolute must have. The bold name and liquid base of Orgasm is a great way to highlight the high points of your face and even your body if you want to branch out. I tend to use this product more when I’m on holiday, I find it really compliments my tan and gives me that beautiful sun kissed glow. You can even mix it with your foundation and apply it with a stippling brush for a dewy and illuminating finish.

Lipstick:

I do love a good nude lipstick and when I was in Sephora I stocked up on my favourite shade, Brigitte. It is a beautiful creamy product with a gorgeous satin finish that I paid with a similar coloured lip pencil or on its own if I want something more natural. The detailing on NARS products are so personal, it also makes me not want to use the lipstick for worry of ruining it. It is pretty long lasting although I find myself reaching for a touch up just because I love re-applying lipsticks (It’s one of my weird qualities!).

image

Pencil:

I first saw this lipstick pencil on Vivianna Does Make Up and her You Tube channel. It is my ultimate shade for the autumn/winter season and I absolutely adore it. The texture is a dream to wear and it is pretty long lasting. Plus it makes my teeth look whiter which is an added bonus. It is their Satin Lip Pencil in the shade, Palais Royal. It’s quite a deep burgundy colour that is just stunning. With the satin finish it glides on beautifully and doesn’t require much prep regarding lip liners. I do always wear a lip primer before applying any products however with this pencil I can simply wear it with my primer and still have full coverage look.

Brushes:

Contour:

image

For those of you who love a good contoured look, this brush is a must have for you. The iconic Ita Kabuki scultped brush is another essential item for your make up collection. It is the best for chiseling your face and creating some fabulous cheekbones. It is quite a pricey product but worth every penny in my opinion. I have seen You Tube wonders, Jaclyn Hill and Beauty Life Michelle use it religiously in their videos and the brush has helped them to create a bold and beautiful contour look. I have only used it a handful of times but this was recommended to me by, Benoit. If it is a personal favourite of his then it will certainly become a personal favourite of mine. I’ve only used it a little to practice with but on mg next night out I really want to work it into my look.

Eyes:

When I purchased the eyeshadow palette, it also included a mini brush for applying and blending product. It is a sort of multipurpose brush that is great it you are creating a simple look or you can use it clean to help blend out a dramatic eye. It’s so soft to use and is a dream to use. Again, if you travel then this little baby will become your best friend for packing light. To be honest, for a brush that is free with a palette the quality is pretty impressive. There’s nothing worse than getting a harsh brush that sheds with a palette, it’s a nightmare.

I also have this adorable mini set that consists of three samples of their tinted moisturiser, sheer glow foundation and the most adorable miniature blush in the shade, Orgasm. This set is absolutely perfect for when I’m travelling.

Beauty Edit: Top 5 Eyeshadow Palettes

I have to admit when it comes to shopping for palettes, I tend to stick to the classic (and somewhat boring) neutral shades. As I have dark brown eyes (that wasn’t supposed to sound as big headed as it seems) I personally feel that I can only wear certain colours that I’m comfortable with. They always say that blues are good for dark eyes but there is no hope in hell of me rocking a dated 1980’s style statement eye. However I have started branching out within the last six months or so by introducing some copper, cranberry and burgundy tones into my palettes. If I’m feeling flirty and looking to spice things up I will always reach for my MAC single eyeshadow in Cranberry and through a loose pigment pot into the mix. Saying that it can be hard to find your perfect palette when you prefer sticking to a certain colour collection. The palettes I currently wear are from high street brands that are perfectly affordable and easy to blend.

NARS: And God Create The Woman:

I purchased this handy little compact when I was shopping up an absolute storm in Sephora, Boston. I can remember when the first palette launched and it was incredibly difficult to purchase due to the high demand. Therefore, you can imagine my excitement when I managed to get my hands on the second limited edition. It is your classic browns and gold’s but it is just so pretty and the best palette for travelling with. No matter if you are going for a subtle daytime look or full on dramatic smoky eye, you can work wonders with this little beauty. The pigmentation is quite impressive, although lets face it; it is a NARS product after all.

Charlotte Tilbury: The Vintage Vamp:

We all know the impact that Ms. Tilbury has had on the make up world since launching a while back. We can’t get it here in Belfast so I always head down to a Brown Thomas in Dublin and shop up a sweet sweet storm. I’ve built up a pretty nice collection but today is all about her wonder palette, The Vintage Vamp. This is by far my favourite choice out of all her palettes. It’s a beautiful warm collection of nudes, burgundies and a fabulous copper sparkle shade. The quartz works in order of how you apply it and I always find myself reaching for it time and time again. No matter what season we are in, I’ll always create an updated version of a statement look.

Tarte: Tarlette Amazonian Clay Matte:

The mother of all matte palettes! This wonder product is a huge favourite between us beauty bloggers and You Tuber’s, the pigmentation is pretty sweet. The shades are almost too pretty to use with the gorgeous Tarte logo imprinted in each pigment. It’s the ultimate palette for creating a soft and subtly daytime look or dusky smoky eye. The product is hard to get your hands on within Ireland and the UK as Tarte is an American brand, the shipping can be quite costly. It’s just so pretty and compact enough to travel with. I’m really into matte looks at the minute so it’s a nice change from all of the sparkles.

Urban Decay: Naked 3:

When it comes to the whole Naked palette craziness, I not particularly a huge fan. Don’t get me wrong I do have the first palette but I have gone off it and never use it anymore. It wasn’t until I seen a fellow beauty blogger using the third palette, that I fell head over heels in love. I definitely prefer the as it makes a nice change from the browns and gold. The third one is more mauve, deep purples and soft pinks, a fresher approach to a smoky eye in my opinion. With a massive variety of shades to play with, you’ll become an absolute PRO at mastering the dramatic smoky eye.

MAC: Toledo Limited Edition Palette:

What I absolutely adore about this little beauty is how different it is compared to my other picks. It is like nothing I would usually opt for but when the lovely girl create a look for me using it, I immediately fell in love. It’s pretty vibrant and not everyone’s cup of tea but if you’re looking to try something new, then I would recommend trying this palette or one similar. It’s a great colour collection to work with during the summer months and I can’t wait to recreate another vibrant look. I actually purchased the highly pigmented liner and mascara to match it they help pull the look together and make it pop like no other.

Which palettes are favourites of yours? I would love to hear your thoughts and maybe build my own collection.

Oversize It

You may remember that last week I attended a pretty perfect event in the Fitzwilliam Hotel held by the lovely ladies from Clarins. For the occasion, I wanted to remain comfortable but mix up my look a little. Therefore, it was an oversized H&M dress, Topshop ripped jeans and standard ankle boots from Miss Selfridge for me. It was a last minute and relaxed look for me. Often when I attend events I will have my look thought out the morning or even night before if I’m being good. I paired all of this with my edgy rose gold spike necklace (my favourite) from Topshop and my absolute go to novelty handbag from Accessorize which is now on sale for £7.50! A brilliant bargain for such a trend setting piece of accessory. I just love metallics, particularly the copper style.

image

For my make up I created a natural and soft smokey eye using my NARS palette, And God Created The Woman. As it was a beauty evening I thought that it was only natural to pay a little more attention to my face. You can’t really see it in the photo and I forgot to take that awkward up close selfie so I just thought that I’d describe it for you. 😉

I always find blogging that little more enjoyable when I’m playing Grey’s Anatomy in the background. Although I’m often distracted when Mc Dreamy makes an appearance! See you all in my next post.

My Week on Instagram

The closer it gets to Christmas, the less time I have to get things done: blogging, work, appointments, gift shopping, social life etc! I kind of just want to pause time for a bit so I can focus on a few things and find some time to breathe. This week for me is all about my brows and hair, they are in dire need of maintenance. Come Friday, I’ll hopefully feel pretty polished.

Hopefully for next weeks post, I’ll be able to share my new interior project with you all. I have been doing a little redecorating at home and I’m in the mist of jungle madness as everything is scattered everywhere. I’m planning to have the majority of it completed by the weekend!

P.s… How horrible is this weather? It does not feel like Christmas is just around the corner with this nasty rain. Anywho, have a great day!

Sephora AW14 Make Up Haul

So, as you all know I took a little trip to the States over the Halloween break. Every time I visit I spend an unhealthy amount of money and time in Sephora. What can I say, I have a slight addiction and it’s like the mother ship calls me every time I’m around. For today, I’m just going to focus on my make up purchases, I will feature my skincare products for another day.

IMG_0989.JPG

I had a few key products that I wanted to purchase and the rest was pieces that tickled my fancy during my spree. I have to say though, I experienced slight devastation when I was informed that Lorac had stopped stocking in Sephora (and Macy’s), so it’s now only available online. I also tried to purchase the Christian Louboutin nail polish but it was sold out in the classic rouge shade. Even with this sad news, I stayed strong and enjoyed the rest of my beauty adventure.

Anywho, starting with my new favourite lip balm brand, I was introduced to Fresh by a lovely employee who worked at Sephora. I was also having a nosey today and catching up with some beauty bloggers and their YouTube channels and the adorable Vivanna from Vivianna Does Make Up had actually included a shade from the Fresh lip balm line as one of her October Favourites. I was well chuffed to for once be ‘in the know’ when it comes to beauty products.

IMG_0986.JPG

Recently my lips have been a little dry and dehydrated, so I was on the search for a good lip balm. What I love most about this brand is how they combat damaged lips while adding a pop of colour and sweet scent to their products. I bought their neutral collection for AW14.

IMG_0985.JPG

IMG_0995.JPG

A good lip scrub is always an essential product within your beauty regime. I tend to use them most at nighttime just before I’m about to go to bed. I leave it on throughout the night in order to give my lips the best treatment during the colder months. Can I just say how devine this little beauty smells! I find it hard not to eat it if I’m being honest.

image

Continuing on with the Sephora goodness, for the first time ever, I spent some time at the NARS counter. I don’t know why, but, I’ve never really got round to investing in their products. Sometimes I can be quite bad at just sticking with products that I know work for me. It’s only recently that I’ve started to branch out so I thought that I would treat myself on holiday.

IMG_0990.JPG

I had been hearing some much hype surrounding their ‘When God Created The Woman’ eyeshadow palette. I adore a good brown smokey eye, particularly during the Autumn/Winter months. What makes this product even more perfect is the fact that it’s pocket size. You can carry it around everywhere with you and have a beautiful collection of shades to work with whether you’re going for a light daytime look or all out bold statement look for nighttime. Various beauty bloggers have been raving about this palette as NARS have just recently relaunched it due to popular demand. These little bundles of happiness are in demand so I would try to get yourself one now before they sell out.

IMG_0991.JPG

A strong pigmented lipstick is a beauty product that I cannot get enough of. I love adding new shades and brands to my lipstick collection. I treated myself to their latest collection piece in the shade, Brigitte. I have to admit, I would buy this lipstick for the packaging alone. It is an incredibly chic case and the magnetic clicking sound when the lid closes is enough to make heart skip a beat. That clicking sound is like a little piece of heaven, I know there are some of you beauty bloggers out there who know what I mean.

IMG_0993.JPG

I’m actually kind of afraid to use it as I don’t want to wear away the adorable little NARS print on the side of the lipstick. It’s the little details that count for me, they make it all the more appealing.

IMG_0983.JPG

Now on to the Pièce de résistance, Hourglass and their Ambient lighting palette. I know I’m a little late to the party with this one, but I like to take my time with certain ‘hype’ products and wait for the reviews. I’m all about highlighting, they’re one of my all time favourite make up products. I have a strong collection of my own, mainly consisting of warm pinks and golds. However, this time I decided to opt for a lighter set of shades for this season.

IMG_0987.JPG

With this pretty palette I can create the perfect lighting on my face. The shades have a soft focus finishing that recreates a flattering light source. With this trio, I can use them as individual shades or combine them for multidimensional glow.

IMG_0988.JPG

Like I have said, within the next few weeks, I’m hoping to feature the skincare products I purchased. Happy Friday, rascals. Have a great weekend!
