Favourite Makeup Brushes

Over the years I’ve built up a trusty collection of makeup brushes that I either use on a daily basis or specific styles for when I’m going out. When I first started blogging I had a very basic selection of brushes that I used for everything. Looking back I don’t know how I managed it as with experience I find I need certain brushes to create and achieve certain looks. Whether I’m carving out my brow, sculpting my contour or touching up my highlight, I need the correct tools to accomplish a flawless look.

Make Up Bag MUST Haves

I don’t know about any of you but my make up bag, drawers and vanity are over flowing with beauty products. My make up bag is especially packed to the brim with various products however I went on a bit of a cleaning spree and edited it down quite a lot. Some of you may find this to be too much but they are essentials that I believe you should have in your beauty bag. Not the exact ones, just work with what you like and can afford.

On an everyday basis, my make up would be quite minimal with the expection of a winged eyeliner if I’m feeling bold. These items are an absolute must have for me, I’m not the kind of girl who can stick on some concealer and go. It’s either a completely make free day for me or all out with my favourites. I always make sure I have enough in my bag so if I need to go somewhere in a moments notice I can. As I have oily skin, you will always see me reaching for a small touch up.

My make up essentials are:

1. Brushes: I strongly believe in using these tools to apply my make up for better application and hygiene reasons (unless I’m packing on pigment eyeshadow, then I might use my index finger). I know some people apply with their hands and that’s fine for them but it’s just a personal preference for me. Last week I invested in more Real Techniques brushes from their bold metals collection. I’ve only been using them for a few days but already I’m obsessed. They’re incredibly soft and great quality, I use these as multi purpose brushes when I’m on the go. The large powder works as a face, cheek and contour brush. The small precise one works well when I’m applying my foundation and setting powder, great for getting in those awkward areas.

2. Foundation: Without a doubt my cult essential. I always have foundation on unless I’m going 100% make up free. I’ve recently switched to L’Oréal and their infallible matte foundation (I’ve been using it for a month now). It has pretty good coverage, medium to full I’d say and is beautifully matte. When applied it leaves a pretty satin feel and it’s long lasting. I opted for my natural shade (I usually go for a little more of a glow) and I’m loving the natural finish. To warm up my face and give it more a sculpted finish, I wear my next product.

3. Concealer Corrector: I have quite dark circles so a colour corrector is a must for me. For some reason I have only started to take notice with this product in the past year. I haven’t included concealer as I find this and my foundation is enough for me, the peach shade cancels out the purple and blue tones. The Pixi brand has been taking the beauty industry by storm and I’m a huge fan, a must have for those of you like me who suffer from dark circles.

4. Bronzer/Highlighter: Another relatively new buy regarding bronzer (I updated my make up collection a little while ago) and I’m really enjoying it. It’s from MAC and their mineralize skinfinish collection. It’s in the shade medium deep and it is an absolute dream to blend. It’s not as dark as it looks, definitely nice and natural in my opinion. The highlighter is in the shade Soft & Gentle and a cult classic. I wear highlighter everyday without a doubt and it’s something I could never live without.

5. Brows: I feel absolutely naked and I would honestly freak out if I ever forgot my eyebrow pencil. Anastasia Beverly Hills is the only product I use regarding my eyebrows. I have such small and patchy brows from years of over plucking, so filling them in is crutical for me. This pencil is worth every penny and the spooly on the end is perfect for lining and grooming on the go. Nothing more to say except BUY IT if you’re on the hunt for something new.

6. Mascara: My first beauty product I ever purchased, I share great memories with this one. Just over a year ago I was invited along to Benefit Cosmetics for the launch of their Roller Lash mascara. Since then I have never looked back, it curls your lashes like no ones business and for me, it doesn’t smudge.

7. Lips: An expensive brand I’m sharing but worth it for me. I have been in love with By Terry’s balm in the shade Baume De Rose for a few years now. Lip care in general is so important for me, so if you find a brand that you love and looks after your lips then just make sure to treat them on a daily basis.

Obviously a make up bag is CRUCIAL as you don’t want to damage anything. Also no one wants to see your products roaming around the bottom of your bag! Mine is from a local brand, Story Horse and it’s their Walk With Me bag. How adorable is it?!

If any of you lovelies have a cult product of your own that I haven’t mentioned please feel free to leave me a comment below!

What’s In My Make Up Bag?

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to be featured on Her.ie discussing all things beauty, particularly what I carry in my make up bag. I shared all of my must have beauty products that I use on a daily basis. I also featured some of my essential products that will carry me from day to night. I feel extremely grateful and honoured to have been featured so I just wanted to share it with all of you today.

As women, we all have the urge to have a good old rummage through other ladies make up bags. I think it says a lot about them and how they look after their appearance. Some can create a truly effortless look with minimal products, I however need a good army of essentials with me to master the ‘no make, make up look’.

I absolutely love shopping for make up and I could spend hours watching my favourite You Tuber’s creating this seasons hottest looks and TRYING to recreate my version of it. As I have quite sensitive skin, I like to invest a little more money into to my everyday look, however I still adore Superdrug for its purse friendly brands that I swear by.

Usually during a week day morning, I have around twenty minutes to create a semi decent face due to my sheer laziness to get out of bed. I keep it simple as I don’t like to wear too much. That all changes though come the weekend, I enjoy nothing more than spending some extra time blending out that perfect smokey eye or keeping it classic with a bold statement lip and a subtle contour using Soleil Tan De Chanel and highlight with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette

I kick start the process with a good skin prep and cleanse, and after applying my La Roche Posay eye cream and Effactlar Duo {+} products I top it off with some moisturiser and I’m good to go. I always prime my face with the Laura Mercier Foundation primer in Radiance, it’s my wonder product and it gives an absolutely beautiful glow to my skin leaving it feeling silky soft. This makes applying and blending my foundation and other products all the more smoother. I can never go without primer, I think it is such an important item to include into your daily make up routine.

Next step is my foundation. I have tried and tested an ridiculous amount of brands over the years for my oily skin type. For about two years now I have settle with drug store brand, Revlon. It was recommended to me by another beauty blogger and I haven’t looked back. Costing only £12.99, it is an absolute bargain and must have if you ask me. It is medium to full coverage and has a semi matte finish with a lovely dewy effect.

I have just recently switched my concealer to Urban Decay’s Naked Skin weightless complete coverage which I am madly in love with. I have problems with my eyes, from dark circles to Malia leaving me feeling pretty self conscious. I like a full coverage look that doesn’t leave my eyes looking dried up. If I apply powder, it ages my under eye area and some concealers crease around my Malia. I believe that concealer should be applied throughout your face to help balance out your look and help it look more dimensional.

When it comes to blush, I usually opt for a soft coral shade that is quite natural looking with a soft sheen. I switch between Benefit’s Rockateur and Max Factor. These two are a must have for me, they are bold enough to notice without overpowering my face. Topping it off with some Bourjois Healthy Balance powder to use in my t-zone and helps keep my foundation in place with the drastic cake effect.

Eyebrows have never been a strong point for me so I always need to have hem filled in, enter Anastasia Beverly Hills. I first purchases her Brow Whiz pencil when I was in New York and I have never looked back. It helps to mimic my hairs without looking too harsh and leaves them looking a lot fuller and tidy. As I have dark brown eyes I love creating a warm smoky eye using Charlotte Tilbury’s Vintage Vamp palette. The colours are absolutely stunning and the pigmentation is pretty impressive. This little quartz is so easy to use and blends like a dream. I’ll always top off my look with some Benefit Rollerlash mascara, it curls my eyelashes so beautifully and doesn’t clump or smudge around my eyes.

Finishing off with my lips, I prime them with MAC’s Prep + Prime. I have been using this product for years now and I swear by it. I love a 90’s neutral lip for my daytime look so I wear Boldly Bare lip pencil with either Hourglass nude lipstick or Charlotte Tilbury’s, Bond Girl. For an evening out, I would apply Make Up Forever’s Rouge Intense lipstick. All of these lip products are long lasting and never bleed, definitely worth investing in if you ask me.

So what did all of you think of my feature? I would love to hear your thoughts on all of it. See you all Friday.

High Street Beauty Haul

I wasn’t able to blog on Friday so I thought that I would kick start the week with a long overdue beauty haul post. My skincare routine has been quite disruptive recently so I needed to purchase my trusty favourites, La Roche Posay and Liz Earle. I also invested in two beauty buys that I have been hearing about from various bloggers. I’m already a huge fan of Hourglass Cosmetics and Real Techniques bold metals collection. Add a some sweet scents to my shopping spree and you’re onto a pretty haul.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish:

I have been an avid user of Liz Earle’s skincare masterpiece for a long time now. I use it morning and night to take off my make up and clean my face. You get two muslin cloths with this purchase which is always handy. They’re great for giving your face a thorough clean and taking every inch of dirt and make up off your skin. This tin set was part of their Christmas collection. For 150ml and two cloths, you buy £19. A good bargain of you ask me as the normal stand alone 100ml bottle is £14.

La Roche Posy Effaclar Duo [+]:

Now onto the absolute saviour of the skincare world! A few years ago, my skin took a turn and was constantly suffering from break outs. I have naturally sensitive skin but it was becoming a very annoying problem. Someone had suggested that I start using this and I have never looked back. It is beautifully moisturising on my skin and keeps any blemishes to a minimum.

M&S Perfumes:

Butterfly:

I believe that a girl can never have too many perfumes. However with that said, it can become a costly addiction. Therefore, I found two dupes at Marks & Spencer that cost over half of the brand prices. Butterfly is a replica of DKNY’s Be Delicious (the green bottle). I came across this scent at the opening of their new beauty department at the Sprucefield store. I was instantly hooked and I save a lot when I’m in between the month. It’s great for wearing during the day as I like to keep my ‘good perfumes’ for special occasions.

Isis:

Back in the day when I was a teenager I wasn’t allowed to buy perfume so I use to use my friends one. It was an Avon scent called Pure Blanca. Does anyone remember it or am I too old school?! Anyway, Isis is the double of it and acts as another great bargain busting perfume.

Hourglass Femme Nude:

Over the past two years, I have seriously become addicted to make up. I have so much that I have run out of storage yet I can’t help but purchase more. I find it worse when I make my regular trips to Boston and NYC. Every few months when I make the good old long haul flight, I reward myself with a trip to Sephora. You all know yourself how amazing that store is! Anyway, back to this post. For some reason, I never purchased the Hourglass Femme Nude shades. A solid natural lipstick is an essential part of my daily make up collection, so I am extremely excited to add this to the rest of my lippies.

Real Techniques Bold Metal Collection:

Saving the best until last, it’s the piece du resistant. There has been so much hype surrounding the Real Technique and their Bold Metal brush collection. You all know that I’m obsessed with rose gold, add a beautiful contour style brush to it and I’m in heaven. I haven’t got round to using it yet, but I’m really looking forward to creating a strong contouring look for a night on the town. I’ll report back soon with my thoughts on it.

Did all of you have a great weekend? How cold was it by the way?!?! I tried to snap some outfit posts, but the wind and coldness got in the way.

My Week on Instagram ❤

Back to reality with a bang, eh? The work week has well and truely started after the holiday period. As much as I don’t like to admit it, I like being back in my routine. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way?! 😉

It is quite a girly timeline from my Instagram feed this week. Plenty of make up, food and fashion. I treated myself just a tad over the festive period, everyone loves a little Chanel. I still have a list of things to get though, next on my list is the breathtaking Hourglass palettes. Just next to book a sneaky trip to Sephora!
